June 18th is the first day to check out books that will earn participants weekly prizes.  All events will get underway Thursdays at 2 p.m. in the Humphreys-Burson Theatre in the Geraldine D. Humphreys Cultural Center starting June 21st and ending July 26th.

Weekly prizes will be chosen from a treasure box filled with an assortment of small toys including stuffed animals, windup toys, zoo beach balls, rubber duckies, flutes, flying disk shooters, sticky frogs, and many others. End-of-the-program drawing prizes include books with stuffed storybook characters, games, crafts, etc. for children of all ages.

All area children are welcome to attend the free program. A current Liberty Municipal Library card is required for each child and are free for all Texans. Parents must present a valid Texas driver’s license when applying for library cards. Children may be signed up to participate any time during first five weeks of the program.

The three age categories are: birth through pre-kindergarten, kindergarten through second grade, and third through sixth grade. Parents or caregivers will sign up children in the appropriate age category and will record the titles of the books they have read in a special reading log.

Children from birth through second grade will read, or have read to them, ten books each week to qualify for the weekly prizes. For every ten books recorded in their reading log the child will receive one participation coupon to qualify them for the special prize drawings at the end of the program.

Children from third through sixth grade will read three books each week to qualify for the weekly prizes, and will receive one participation coupon for every three books read to qualify them for the special prize drawings.

The more they read the better their chances are of winning a prize in the special prize drawings. The last day to record books in reading logs is Saturday, July 26th.
