This year’s theme is “A Universe of Stories” and the library has a great lineup of entertainment and prizes for all area children.

June 17 is the first day to check out books that will earn participants weekly prizes. Weekly entertainers include: Craft Day on June 20, Space Center Houston Stellar Presentations - Yes, It's Rocket Science! on June 27, Magician John O' Bryant on July 11, Science Tellers on July 18, and the closing ceremony, prize drawings featuring Musician Will Parker. All events will get underway at 2:00 p.m. in the Humphreys-Burson Theatre in the Geraldine D. Humphreys Cultural Center.

Weekly prizes will be chosen from a treasure box filled with an assortment of small toys.

All children who participate will receive a certificate at the end of the program.  There will be a special closing day ceremony and party.

All area children are welcome to attend the free program. An up-to-date Liberty Municipal Library card is required for each child and is free for all Texans. Parents must present a valid Texas driver’s license when applying for library cards. Children may be signed up to participate any time during first five weeks of the program.

The three age categories are: birth through pre-k, kindergarten through second grade, and third through sixth grade. Parents or caregivers will sign up children in the appropriate age category and will record the titles of the books.

Children from birth through second grade will read, or have read to them, ten books each week to qualify for the weekly prizes. For every ten books recorded in their reading log the child will receive one participation coupon to qualify them for the special prize drawings at the end of the program.

Children from third through sixth grade will read three books each week to qualify for the weekly prizes, and will receive one participation coupon for every three books read to qualify them for the special prize drawings.

Children are not limited in the number of books they may check out or record in their reading logs.  However, only books from the Liberty Municipal Library may be read and each book must be checked.  The more they read the better their chances are of winning a prize in the special prize drawings. The last day to record books in reading logs is Saturday, July 20.

*Parents/Guardians, please turn in log books before Thursday, July 25th. This is so staff can get bags and certificates ready for your child/children for the Award Show, July 25 @ 2:00 p.m.
